I know I have not posted a blog recently, and there is a good reason. I don’t know what the reason is, but there’s bound to be one. Ok, you got me, I know the reason, and because we’ve gotten so close I’ll share. As the hours passed through the day, I had to decide how to spend my time… to blog or not to blog.
Once upon a time…oh wait wrong story. Let me start again… I haven’t posted a blog recently because I changed jobs. Wait, what? That was months ago! In my previous job, I put in lots of hours and neglected my creative spirit. As I now work from home, I find I have more time and my creative side is overflowing. I started the blog to share stories and feed the creative writer in me. The creative writer then got drunk with ideas and called the painter, who then called the crafter, who invited the woodworker. Imagine a small get-together then everyone who was invited brought ten friends along and those ten friends brought ten more friends, and so on. Within no time, my creative side was having a full-blown all-night bash. The art project ideas littered my mind like red solo cups the morning after a college party.
However, writing the blog requires sitting at the computer, just like my new job requires. To be honest, I’ve gained a little weight sitting at the computer for the better part of the day. So, the time I had spent tickling the keys writing for the blog, I reallocated to art projects. You have gotten to see a few of them, The Gar and The Octopus. I stand and move around as I’m using power tools and pouring resin and the like. In the painting portions I am sitting again but I’m holding a brush rather than staring at the screen.
While I try to be the best storyteller I can be, there’s something different about trying out new art projects that brings me a sense of accomplishment, enjoyment, and peace of mind. I think that’s why I am stretching my talents and skills by mixing mediums with each new project.
I am really enjoying the time I have to unleash my creative side, whether it is writing or painting. The joy is in the creation of something that wasn’t there before, turning a blank page into a story, turning a stone into a work of art, or finding an animal in a plank of wood.
Don’t fret, I am not going to stop writing, there are still so many stories to share. I should be making some additions to the boating and flying categories soon. I will also continue to walk you through, beginning to end, some of the art projects as I complete them. So stay tuned, and there will be more soon!
